This is another tender port, and everything was booked, so all we managed was a boat ride to see Colton’s and seals, but it wasn’t until 3PM because the morning one was booked up. We got off at the ferry port, and Jess went up to a local directing ferry traffic, and asked what we could do? She called a friend who had a big Dodge Ram truck, and he agreed to take us on a private tour. We had a Kiwi couple from Tauranga join us, and waited for a pick up. We had time for a half day tour, which included a couple of beaches, lavender farm, brewery and the possibility of a Koala sighting.

The south coast was very rugged and has good surf but a lot of sharks! There is nothing between it and Antarctica. We went to Emu Cove on the north coast and it was calm and the water a lot warmer! The Lavendar farm makes Gin infused with lavendar si I picked up a bottle. The brewery had good local beer and pizza, which was excellent! Our local guide took us to a place where we could possibly see koalas, so we walked down a road but didn’t spot any, but did see a cool bird and a kangaroo. We drove away and he spotted one down the road so we pulled over:

Kangaroo on Kangaroo island

We made it for our boat ride, and were the last to board. The last 2 seats weren’t together because a couple decided to each take an end seat. They were pretty unfriendly so we enjoyed the folks on the other side who were nice.

More dolphins, seals and Sea Lions was nice, but the geologic features of the island was interesting. The species of kangaroos are unique to kangaroo island, and the drift of the island is something like 6cm/ year, which is pretty wild!

Another fabulous day in Southern Australia!
