We didn’t actually debark here, as it was too rough for our tender boats. Some locals boarded the ship and set up a market place to sell local crafts and shirts. Typical of this world cruise, there was a lot of pushing and shoving, so we took a Quick Look and passed on fighting with the shopping nazis.

This remote island is where the crew of the HMS Bounty came after the mutiny as depicted in Mutiny on the Bounty. They destroyed and burned the ship, ensuring that there was no escape. Most of the residents are descendants of the mutineers, and we discovered that there is rampant pediphilia which was made public by a trial in the early 2000s. The sentences handed down were sort of a slap on the wrist, and most likely continues today. I had hoped to read the book, but didn’t get to it before the stop. Most of the children go to New Zealand for schooling and many opt to not return, so the population is aging and their future is questionable in this very remote place.
